SEM Applications, Inc. has been an industry leader in guardianship and fiduciary information software since the creation of the EMS application in 1997. The program was originally developed for the Holt County Missouri Public Administrator — the developer’s father. After watching his dad put in long hours serving a growing number of clients without the benefit of a guardian reporting software program designed for the requirements of guardianship, Stanley Edward Meng put his education to work building a program that would give his dad the guardianship tools necessary to track client demographics, manage bank accounts, record case notes and create organized court accountings within a single, comprehensive application. Working closely with his dad, Stan was able to understand the demands of the profession and build an application that would be responsive to the unique needs of guardianship and fiduciary management. 

Recognizing the potential impact of a proven guardianship and fiduciary information system throughout the industry, Stan launched SEM Applications, Inc. to share the guardian reporting software with other public administrators across the state. The software quickly became a coveted conservatorship tool for individuals and organizations, both public and private, in Missouri and beyond. In 2008, SEM Applications took the functionality of the original client/server (desktop) application and launched SaaS services — an enhanced web-based version of the application accessible from a secure hosted server. With the web application, customers have no hardware or software to purchase or maintain, just the flexibility to work when and where they choose with only an Internet connection required. SaaS leverages a shared, common infrastructure and code base that is strictly maintained, to provide a conservatorship solution that is both reliable and customizable. Because of the way SaaS is architected, customizations unique to each customer are always preserved through upgrades, which means upgrades can happen more frequently with less risk and much lower cost — an important tenet of our agile development philosophy. The result is an out-of-the-box application that fits like custom guardian reporting software without spending thousands upfront. A monthly subscription is all you need.

Stanley Meng

President and Creator

As owner and creator, Stan is SEM Applications, Inc. The company is built on his initials (Stanley Edward Meng) as well as his design. Stan is an experienced database administrator, developer and software designer, with a B.S. in computer science from Northwest Missouri State University. Prior to creating EMS in 1997, he worked as a project manager and database designer for Nations Holding Company and as a database administrator and senior level developer for JP Morgan/Chase. As owner and EMS lead developer for more than 25 years, he has worked with some of the most experienced guardians across the United States to discover best practices for client and financial management and applied that knowledge to the development and continued enhancement of the guardian reporting software. As president, his leadership and experience set the tone for the company’s commitment to professionalism and exceptional customer service.
